Prime Minister to engage grassroots cadre under ‘Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot’ initiative ahead of Assembly elections
New Delhi, April 13: With campaigning gaining momentum ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has stepped up its outreach efforts in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to interact virtually with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Tamil Nadu on Monday as part of a nationwide grassroots mobilisation programme.
BJP Focuses on Booth-Level Strategy
The interaction, scheduled for 4:00 PM, is being organised under the ‘Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot Samvad’ initiative. The programme is designed to strengthen booth-level networks, which are considered crucial for voter outreach and election management.
According to party sources, around 500,000 booth committee members from across Tamil Nadu are expected to participate. Workers have been asked to register through the NaMo App to join the session and engage directly with the Prime Minister.
Campaign Plans and Key Leaders’ Visits
The virtual interaction comes as part of a broader campaign push by the BJP and its allies in the state. Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu later this week. He is expected to campaign in Nagercoil on April 15 and address a public rally in Coimbatore on April 18, where candidates from the AIADMK-BJP alliance will be present.
Senior party leaders are also stepping up their presence on the ground. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit the state soon, while BJP national president Nitin Navin is scheduled to campaign in Kandarakottai and participate in a meeting of booth-level office-bearers in Thanjavur.
High-Stakes Contest in Tamil Nadu
The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) aiming to retain power. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has been actively campaigning across the state.
On the other hand, the NDA, including the BJP and AIADMK led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is seeking to challenge the incumbent government by focusing on governance issues and development promises.
Why This Outreach Matters
Booth-level workers play a critical role in Indian elections, acting as the primary link between political parties and voters. By directly engaging with grassroots cadre, the BJP aims to improve coordination, messaging, and voter mobilisation in a state where it has traditionally had limited electoral success.
The use of digital platforms like the NaMo App reflects a broader strategy to combine on-ground campaigning with technology-driven outreach.
What Lies Ahead
With less than two weeks remaining for polling, all major parties are expected to further intensify their campaigns through rallies, roadshows, and targeted voter engagement programmes.
The outcome of the election will be significant not only for Tamil Nadu’s political landscape but also for the NDA’s efforts to expand its presence in southern India.
