Gorakhpur Hosts Global AI Confluence 2026 with Participation from 26 Countries

Gorakhpur, March 27: A two-day international conference on artificial intelligence, titled the Global AI Confluence 2026, began at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University on Friday. The event is being jointly organised by the World Organization of Students and Youth (WOSY), Meta, and the host university.

The inaugural session drew participation from 180 delegates representing 26 countries, reflecting growing global engagement with artificial intelligence and its expanding role across sectors.

Key Highlights

The conference is designed as a platform for international experts, researchers, and policymakers to deliberate on the current AI landscape and its future trajectory. Sessions over the two days will focus on innovation, emerging technologies, and the use of AI in areas such as education and social welfare.

Participants are also expected to examine the broader socio-economic implications of AI, including its impact on employment, governance, and public services.

Official Statements

Uttar Pradesh’s Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, who inaugurated the event, described the confluence as a platform for global exchange of ideas. Referring to the concept of Samudra Manthan, he said collaborative efforts in knowledge and technology could generate solutions for wider societal benefit. He also stressed the importance of aligning technological development with ethical values and cultural priorities.

Ashish Chauhan highlighted concerns around data sovereignty, noting that countries must move beyond being consumers of AI technologies to becoming creators. He warned that dependence on external systems could lead to concentration of control over data and digital infrastructure.

Rajiv Prakash underscored the need for a human-centric approach to AI. He stated that while AI can enhance efficiency in sectors such as agriculture and emergency healthcare, human oversight and accountability must remain central to decision-making processes.

Context and Background

Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping global economies and governance systems. Governments worldwide are investing in AI to improve service delivery, boost productivity, and address complex challenges in healthcare, agriculture, and urban management.

India has also prioritised AI development through academic collaborations and policy initiatives, aiming to strengthen its position in the global technology ecosystem. Events like this confluence serve as forums for knowledge exchange and international cooperation.

Public Impact

The discussions are expected to contribute to shaping future AI strategies, particularly in ensuring ethical use, data protection, and inclusive access to technology. For students and researchers, the event provides exposure to global developments and opportunities for collaboration.

The emphasis on localised AI solutions and responsible innovation could also influence how technology is adapted to meet regional needs.

Conclusion

The Global AI Confluence 2026 will continue with technical sessions and panel discussions over the next two days. Organisers say the outcomes of these deliberations could help guide more balanced and socially responsible AI development in the years ahead.
