The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will organise a two-day capacity building workshop on “Monitoring Frameworks of Sustainable Development Goals, Compilation of Environment Accounts, and Gender Statistics” in Patna, Bihar, on March 18 and 19, 2026.
The workshop is being co-organised with the Government of Bihar, with technical support from UNDP India. It aims to strengthen institutional capacity in three key areas — Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), environment accounts, and gender statistics — to support better data systems and evidence-based policymaking.
According to MoSPI, the event will bring together representatives from line ministries, State and Union Territory departments, and international agencies to discuss major challenges, exchange best practices, and improve coordination on statistical frameworks.
The workshop is expected to be attended by the Minister of Planning and Development, Government of Bihar, the Secretary of MoSPI, the Chief Secretary of Bihar, senior MoSPI officials, Bihar government officers, and representatives from UN agencies.
Day 1 of the workshop will focus on SDGs and gender statistics. Discussions on SDGs will cover the National Indicator Framework (NIF) and state-level indicator systems aligned with SDG targets. The session will explore how SDG data can go beyond routine tracking and help in evidence-based governance and policy decisions.
A separate technical session on gender statistics will look at how stronger gender data can support women-led development and improve gender-responsive governance.
Day 2 will focus on environmental accounts and statistics. The discussions will cover the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework, methods for valuing forest services, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, and the experiences of states in developing environmental accounts. Environmental experts are also expected to share their views on strengthening this area of official statistics.
