Veteran Malayalam actor and director E. Rajendran passed away at the age of 71 on Wednesday following a prolonged illness. He died at his residence in Pattathanam in Kollam.
Rajendran was a prominent figure in Kerala’s performing arts scene and was also related to noted actor Mukesh as his brother-in-law.

With the support of playwright Jose Chirammal, he adapted a Russian novel into a stage play, which received the Kerala State Government Award for Best Play in 1987.
He later led the troupe, with both him and his wife Sandhya serving as its principal actors for several years. During this time, Sandhya also received recognition as Best Theatre Actress at the state level.
