Lucknow, March 30:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to transfer more than ₹3,350 crore directly into the bank accounts of nearly 28 lakh beneficiaries on Monday under various scholarship and social welfare schemes. The disbursement will take place through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system at a programme आयोजित at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.

Key Highlights of the DBT Transfer

The funds will primarily cover scholarships and fee reimbursements for students from Class 9 to post-matric levels. According to officials, a total of 27,99,982 students will benefit from this tranche.

  • ₹467.94 crore for 6,68,707 Scheduled Caste students
  • ₹779.10 crore for 4,95,793 students from the General category
  • ₹1,838.59 crore for 13,52,357 Other Backward Class (OBC) students
  • ₹252.76 crore for 2,75,889 Minority students
  • ₹11.61 crore for 7,236 Scheduled Tribe students

Government’s Statement

State Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Disabled Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap, said the initiative reflects the government’s emphasis on transparency and timely delivery of welfare benefits. He noted that direct transfers reduce leakages and ensure funds reach intended beneficiaries without intermediaries.

What is DBT and Why It Matters

The Direct Benefit Transfer system enables governments to send subsidies and financial aid directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Introduced to curb corruption and delays, DBT has become a central mechanism for welfare delivery across India.

By using DBT, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to streamline payments, improve accountability, and ensure that students receive financial support on time—especially critical for continuing education.

Broader Context and Annual Allocation

Officials indicated that in the 2025–26 financial year, the state plans to transfer a total of ₹4,735.04 crore to over 65 lakh beneficiaries through DBT under similar schemes. This includes scholarships, fee reimbursements, and family benefit programmes aimed at economically weaker sections.

The government has also been working to digitise the scholarship process. Authorities said an automated system is being implemented, along with a mobile application to simplify applications and tracking for students.

Public Impact

The latest disbursement is expected to ease financial burdens on students from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them continue their education without disruption. Scholarship and reimbursement schemes play a crucial role in improving school and college retention rates, particularly among marginalised communities.

Conclusion

With the latest DBT transfer, the Uttar Pradesh government continues to expand its use of direct payments for welfare delivery. Officials say further technological upgrades and streamlined systems are planned to make access to scholarships faster and more transparent in the coming months.
