Debutants Prafull Hinge and Saqib Hussain dismantle Rajasthan’s batting as Hyderabad seal convincing home win
Hyderabad, April 14: Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a commanding 57-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2026 season, delivering a dominant all-round performance at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday. The result brought an end to Rajasthan’s winning streak while giving Hyderabad a much-needed boost in the league standings.
Batting first, Hyderabad put up a formidable total of 216 for 6 in 20 overs, driven by a strong top-order display. Ishan Kishan led the innings with a fluent 91, combining aggressive stroke play with control through the middle overs. He found support from Heinrich Klaasen, who contributed a quick 40, helping the team maintain a high scoring rate. The total set a challenging target, putting immediate pressure on Rajasthan’s batting lineup.
Rajasthan’s chase of 217 got off to a disastrous start, with debutant pacer Prafull Hinge making an instant impact. He picked up three wickets in the opening over, dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel and Lhuan-Dre Pretorius, leaving Rajasthan reeling. Hinge later dismissed captain Riyan Parag to finish with figures of 4 for 34. From the other end, fellow debutant Saqib Hussain maintained relentless pressure, claiming 4 for 24, including the key wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. At one stage, Rajasthan were reduced to 9 for 5, effectively putting the match beyond reach.
Despite the early collapse, Rajasthan attempted a recovery through a partnership between Donovan Ferreira and Ravindra Jadeja. Ferreira scored 69 while Jadeja added 45, with the pair stitching together a 118-run stand. However, the steep target and early damage proved too much to overcome, and Rajasthan were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
The match was effectively decided in the first over of Rajasthan’s innings, when Hinge’s triple strike dismantled the top order and shifted momentum firmly in Hyderabad’s favour. The victory marks Hyderabad’s second win in five matches, lifting them to fourth place in the standings. For Rajasthan, the loss ends a run of consecutive wins and highlights concerns around their top-order stability.
Hyderabad will look to build on this performance as the tournament progresses, while Rajasthan will aim to regroup and address key weaknesses in the matches ahead.
