Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer admitted his side’s mistakes in the field and with the ball proved costly after Delhi Capitals pulled off a record chase in Dharamshala.
In a high-scoring Indian Premier League 2026 clash at Dharamshala on Monday night, Shreyas Iyer said Punjab Kings let the match slip away because of poor bowling execution and costly fielding lapses against Delhi Capitals.
Despite posting a strong total of 210 for 5, Punjab Kings failed to defend the target as Delhi chased down 216 for 7 in 19 overs, registering a three-wicket victory and the highest successful run chase ever at the Dharamshala venue.
Shreyas Iyer Admits Team Errors
Speaking after the match, Iyer offered a blunt assessment of Punjab’s performance, saying the team fell short in two crucial areas.
According to the PBKS captain, the conditions at Dharamshala were more challenging for batting than the final score suggested because the pitch offered seam movement and uneven bounce.

The Punjab skipper explained that the team management believed pace bowlers would be more effective because of the assistance available for seamers from the pitch. However, the strategy failed to produce consistent breakthroughs as Delhi’s middle order accelerated during the chase.
