In a thrilling Indian Premier League 2026 contest at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday, Virat Kohli produced a match-winning unbeaten century to guide Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chasing a challenging target of 193, Bengaluru reached 193/4 in 19.1 overs, thanks largely to Kohli’s composed and aggressive innings of 105 not out. The win pushed RCB to the top of the IPL 2026 standings and strengthened the team’s playoff prospects.
KKR Post Competitive Total After Strong Middle Overs
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 192/4 in their 20 overs. Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi anchored the innings with a fluent 71 off 46 balls, striking seven boundaries and three sixes.
KKR received additional momentum late in the innings from Rinku Singh, who remained unbeaten on 49 from 29 deliveries. His late acceleration helped Kolkata finish strongly after a steady start.
Opener Finn Allen scored 18, while captain Ajinkya Rahane contributed 19. Cameron Green added a useful 32 during the middle overs to keep the scoreboard moving.
For Bengaluru, bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam Dar picked up one wicket each.
Kohli Anchors Clinical Chase
RCB began the chase positively and maintained momentum throughout the innings. Kohli played the central role, combining controlled strokeplay with timely aggression. His unbeaten 105 included 11 fours and three sixes, allowing Bengaluru to stay ahead of the required run rate for most of the chase.
Devdutt Padikkal provided solid support with 39 runs, while Jacob Bethell chipped in with 15. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 8 and stayed with Kohli till the winning runs were scored.
The successful chase highlighted Bengaluru’s batting depth and their ability to handle pressure in crucial moments of the tournament.
Why the Result Matters
The victory carries significant importance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the IPL 2026 league stage approaches its decisive phase. Moving to the top of the points table gives RCB a stronger chance of securing a favorable playoff position.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the defeat represents a setback in a tightly contested tournament. Despite strong contributions from Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh, KKR’s bowling attack struggled to contain Bengaluru’s chase, especially after Kohli settled at the crease.

Focus Turns to Playoff Race
With the tournament entering a crucial period, both teams will now shift attention to their remaining league fixtures. RCB will aim to maintain momentum after a dominant batting performance, while KKR will look to recover quickly and strengthen their playoff hopes in upcoming matches.
