KKR captain penalised after team’s first over-rate violation during defeat to Chennai Super Kings
Chennai, April 15:
Ajinkya Rahane, captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings.
The penalty was imposed following Match No. 22 of the Indian Premier League, played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Slow Over Rate Violation
According to IPL regulations, teams are required to complete their overs within a stipulated time. Rahane was fined under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate offences.
As this was Kolkata Knight Riders’ first such offence in the 2026 season, only the captain faced a monetary penalty. Repeat violations could result in stricter punishments, including higher fines or suspension.
Match Result
In the match, Chennai Super Kings put up a strong total of 192 for 5 after batting first. Kolkata Knight Riders, in reply, managed 160 for 7 in their 20 overs, losing the contest by 32 runs.
The loss added to KKR’s setback, with the over-rate breach compounding their troubles on the day.
