New Delhi, April 22: Hyundai Motor India is preparing an aggressive SUV-led product expansion for the domestic market, with multiple new launches expected over the next two years. The upcoming portfolio is likely to include a next-generation Creta with hybrid technology, a new three-row family SUV, an affordable electric SUV, and the premium Palisade expected to rival the Toyota Fortuner.
The move comes as competition intensifies in India’s fast-growing utility vehicle market, where Hyundai is facing increasing pressure from Tata Motors, Mahindra, Toyota and Kia. Industry reports suggest the company is now placing a sharper focus on hybrid efficiency, electrification and larger family-oriented SUVs as part of its medium-term roadmap.
With entry pricing expected to begin from around ₹10 lakh for the compact EV offering, Hyundai’s upcoming launches are aimed at covering multiple segments, from urban commuters to premium full-size SUV buyers.
Next-generation Creta to lead Hyundai’s hybrid push
At the centre of Hyundai’s future plans is the next-generation Creta, one of India’s highest-selling midsize SUVs.
According to recent industry reports, the upcoming model is expected to arrive with a strong hybrid powertrain, marking Hyundai’s first serious push into the mass-market hybrid SUV segment in India. The company is expected to retain the existing petrol and diesel engine options while introducing a hybrid system aimed at significantly improving fuel efficiency and lowering running costs.
The model is likely to receive a major design overhaul, with a more upright stance and updated styling inspired by Hyundai’s global SUV and EV portfolio. Interior upgrades are expected to include a redesigned dashboard layout, larger screens, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and enhanced cabin quality.
The next-gen Creta is widely expected to play a key role in Hyundai’s attempt to defend its position in the highly competitive midsize SUV space.
New three-row SUV expected above Alcazar
Hyundai is also reportedly working on a new three-row SUV positioned above the Alcazar, targeting buyers looking for larger family vehicles.
The upcoming model is expected to sit between the Alcazar and the Tucson in Hyundai’s lineup. It is likely to compete directly with the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
The SUV is expected to offer six- and seven-seat configurations, more rear-seat space, and hybrid powertrain options. This launch could strengthen Hyundai’s presence in the premium family SUV category, a segment that has seen robust demand in recent years.
Affordable compact EV to rival Tata Punch EV
Hyundai is also expected to introduce a compact electric SUV positioned in the affordable segment, with prices likely to start near the ₹10 lakh mark.
The upcoming EV is expected to rival the Tata Punch EV and Tata Nexon EV, which currently dominate the mass-market electric SUV segment in India.
Reports indicate Hyundai is working on an India-focused electric strategy, and this compact EV could become a crucial volume driver as EV adoption rises in urban markets. The vehicle is expected to offer practical range figures, connected features, fast-charging capability and compact dimensions suitable for city use.
This launch is particularly significant as Hyundai seeks to expand beyond premium EV offerings and build a stronger presence in the entry and midsize electric vehicle market.
Palisade to challenge Fortuner in premium SUV segment
At the top end of the planned line-up, Hyundai is expected to bring the Palisade to India as its flagship SUV.
Globally positioned as a premium full-size three-row SUV, the Palisade is likely to be Hyundai’s direct answer to the Toyota Fortuner, which has long dominated the segment.
The India-bound version is widely expected to feature a hybrid powertrain, aligning with Hyundai’s larger electrification strategy. Internationally, the Palisade hybrid has already been introduced with strong emphasis on efficiency and premium comfort.
If launched in India, the model will target buyers seeking premium cabin space, commanding road presence and advanced safety technology in the ₹35 lakh-plus segment.
Why Hyundai’s SUV roadmap matters
Hyundai’s reported product pipeline reflects a clear shift in strategy.
For years, the company focused heavily on petrol, diesel and EV products. However, changing consumer preferences and the rapid rise of hybrid demand in India appear to be pushing the automaker towards a more diversified powertrain mix.
With the Creta, a new three-row SUV, an affordable EV and the Palisade all reportedly in the pipeline, Hyundai seems set for one of its most extensive SUV product offensives in recent years.
For Indian buyers, this could translate into more fuel-efficient options, stronger EV choices and greater competition in the premium SUV market.
